Economics and Alternatives in the Big Smoke

MarketX Ventures participated in the Alternative Investment Management (AIM) Summit held at the Four Seasons Hotel London at Ten Trinity Square this past week.

Cathryn Chen, Founder & General Partner at MarketX Ventures, was invited to speak on the Biggest VC Risks and Challenges for 2023 panel while entertaining engaging discussions ranging from the tokenization of real-world assets to the economic decoupling of the United States and China. Chen also spoke to the risks associated with poor risk management related to the latest startup blow-ups and key issues regarding central governments’ monetary issues.

The evening also included a discussion pertaining to the interest rate and monetary policies of the United States versus the United Kingdom between Larry Summers, the 71st United States Secretary of the Treasury, and Charles Goodhart, a former Chief Adviser at the Bank of England and professor emeritus at Chen’s alma mater, the London School of Economics and Political Science. Other notable attendees included former Morgan Stanley leaders Zoe Cruz, now Founder & CEO of Menai Financial Group and former CEO of Morgan Stanley, and Stephen Roach, now Senior Fellow at Yale University.

The team also hosted a lively cocktail reception at Fitz’s at Kimpton Fitzroy for early arrivals to the conference. An ensemble of both speakers and attendees from a diverse set of backgrounds — including founders, investors, and family offices — contributed to a successful networking event after a long day of travel for many.

Wrapping up a whirlwind week in the Square Mile, MarketX Ventures’ next stop: San Francisco.
