Sumeet Vaidya, a distinguished engineering leader, currently serves as the Director of Engineering at Discord, a platform that has become synonymous with community engagement and real-time communication. With a career spanning various facets of engineering—from consumer products and third-party APIs to mobile infrastructure and hardware integrations—Sumeet has proven his mettle in leading teams through different stages, including hyper-growth, layoffs, and strategic shifts.
At Discord, Sumeet wears multiple hats, building teams focused on personalizing user experiences and partnering with applied ML teams to develop Al-powered features. He also manages the Communities and Creators groups, responsible for robust tools for server admins and features for users on large servers. He previously managed the Bots and Activities teams, where he oversaw the formation of their platform ecosystem.
Before joining Discord, Sumeet had a rich tenure at Uber for over five years, where he led various engineering teams, including those responsible for Micromobility and Vehicle Solutions. His role at Uber involved handling third-party integrations and focusing on rider growth and experience. Prior to Uber, Sumeet contributed to Facebook's Groups and Public Content infrastructure, modernizing comments and building out ranked replies among other features.
Sumeet holds both a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan, with a minor in moral and political philosophy. His diverse experience and commitment to fostering a strong engineering culture make him a standout leader in the tech industry.
